Parents Needed and Back to School Night

Please click here for the latest Connect HS Newsletter.

Here are some quick updates for our Connect High families:

Back to School Night Schedule (TOMORROW 10/3)
5:00-6:15 PM Families for Monday/Thursday Cohort
6:25-7:30 PM Families for Tuesday/Friday  Cohort

Da Vinci Connect School Site Council has been changed due to California Education Code.  In accordance with the Greene Act ( Ed Code 35140-35149), we are shifting away from School Site Council, and moving towards a Parent Advisory Council, beginning this school year! Much of the work will feel very similar to the work of SSC, reviewing LCAP, School Safety Plan, general program feedback however there are some changes:

-Members of PAC are appointed, not elected
-There is a requirement for diverse representation within the members of the council, with the goal of representing the diversity of our overall population
-PAC is a review committee only, and will not “approve” LCAP as done in the past through SSC

If you are interested please show your interest here. Meeting dates for PAC are also indicated within this form

Tassels for Teens Bike-a-thon & Fitness Walk

What is Tassels for Teens Bike-a-thon & Fitness Walk?

Tassels for Teen Bike-a-thon & Fitness Walk is our annual charity walk in Long Beach, CA where high school students, parents, neighbors, college graduates, community leaders and volunteers show their support and share their passion for EDUCATION!

We’ve been ‘walking the walk” and “talking the talk” since 2003, and to date have raised over $20,000 in support of SCHOLARSHIP and have provided deserving high school & college students monetary awards. Your participation in this year’s Tassels for Teens Bike-a-thon & Fitness Walk will provide financial assistance to college bound teens in our community and give high school graduates who are aspiring to attend college a CHANCE.

Complete A Meal Application Today. Qualify for College Application Fee Waivers, Low-Cost Internet, Utilities & More!

Thank you for helping to get the 2023-24 school year off to a great start!

Both the state and federal government require Da Vinci to report the number of students each year who qualify for free and reduced meals. Although meals are currently being provided to all students free of charge, Da Vinci’s percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced meals greatly impacts the amount of additional funding Da Vinci can receive.

Studies show that many eligible families, in particular middle school and high school families, do not complete the meal application each year leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for Da Vinci Schools on the table. Even a small increase in eligible forms collected results in significantly more money for ALL students.

We ask that every family complete a federal Meal Application by October 27th to maximize funding for ALL Da Vinci students.

Please fill out the application online at MySchoolApps.com. Only complete one application per family. This information will not be shared or utilized for any other purpose.

Based on your circumstances, your family may qualify for P-EBT food benefits, low-cost internet access, utilities assistance, fee waivers for college applications, SAT/ACT and Subject Test fee waivers, scholarships, and more!

Don’t delay — you may be eligible for significant savings while helping Da Vinci maximize funding for ALL students.

Visit MySchoolApps.com today!

If you need assistance, please contact Sara at meals@davincischools.org or visit www.davincischools.org/meals.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Community Service Club

Dear Da Vinci Connect Students!

October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re excited to share a heartfelt initiative with you.

On October 2nd and 3rd, we invite all students to join hands in a show of support by wearing pink!

By wearing pink, we not only raise awareness for breast cancer but also demonstrate our unity in the face of adversity. Each pink garment becomes a symbol of hope, reminding us of the importance of early detection and prevention!

Let’s come together, in pink, and make a profound statement about our commitment to making a difference. Your small gesture can lead to significant change!

We look forward to seeing our hallways and classrooms awash in shades of pink on these days. Thank you for embracing this initiative with open hearts.

Cal Grant Opt Out Form

Hello Senior Students and Families,

As you prepare for the college application process, many of you will apply for financial aid.  One of those funding options is our State Grant, called the Cal Grant.  The Cal Grant is funding for college that students do not pay back. The Cal Grant can be used at any University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) or California Community College, as well as qualifying independent (private) and career colleges or technical schools in California.

To qualify, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by April 2, 2024 and meet the eligibility and financial requirements as well as any minimum GPA requirements.  Eligibility is based on your FAFSA or CADAA responses, your verified high school Cal Grant GPA, the type of California colleges you list on your FAFSA and whether you’re a recent high school graduate. To learn more about the qualifications, please visit www.calgrants.org.

Da Vinci Connect High School is required to submit student’s verified GPA to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). By law families can “opt out” of this process if you do not want Connect HS to submit your student’s verified GPA. If you choose to “opt out”, this means your student will not be eligible to receive a Cal Grant. In order to “opt-out”, please complete the attached form below and return to Erin Knott via email at eknott@davincischools.org no later than October 4, 2023. If you do not return the “opt-out” form, Connect HS will submit your student’s verified GPA to the CSAC to determine your student’s Cal Grant eligibility.

To obtain an opt-out form click on this link: gpa_opt_out

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Erin Knott via email at eknott@davincischools.org
