Updates from Common App

Message to current seniors from Common App:

This month we launched a new year of Common App Direct Admissions, with 117 participating colleges. This program simplifies the college application process by offering eligible first-generation, low- and middle-income students admission based on the information they’ve entered into their Common App—before they even apply.

Students can view, learn about, and act on these offers directly from their Common App dashboard. Many colleges waive application requirements, like the personal essay, or guarantee financial aid, making the process even more accessible.

To help students better understand how it works, we’ve released a brand-new video on our YouTube channel that explains Common App Direct Admissions. If a student is interested in an offer, they can submit a free, non-binding application, and colleges will verify their information and send an official acceptance letter.

With direct admissions, students feel welcomed and valued, giving them a head start on their college journey.

CSUN Updates and Upcoming Events

Fall 2025 Applications and Priority Review Dates
The Cal State Apply application period for fall 2025 opens Oct. 1. We’re encouraging students to apply by our priority review deadlines, Nov. 15 and Dec. 15. Meeting a priority review deadline helps our admissions team process applications sooner, and can lead to students receiving their admissions decision faster. We’re sharing this information as a heads up in case any students mistakenly interpret it to mean the final application deadline has changed. CSUN will continue to accept applications through Jan. 31, 2025.

Save the Date for CSUN Open House
Join us on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., for an all-access look at our campus, programs and services. This year’s event features two new presentations — a session geared toward undecided students and a session designed to help parents better understand the college application process. (This session will be offered in English and Spanish.) Please see this flyer for more info.

New Discover CSUN Site — A “Greatest Hits” Collection of CSUN Features
We recently launched a new microsite designed to help students and their families better understand all that’s available at CSUN. Discover CSUN offers an overview of admissions requirements, cost and financial aid, student housing, programs and services, Matador life and life after CSUN.

Major Spotlight: Music Industry Studies
Speaking of greatest hits . . . CSUN’s Music Industry Studies major teaches the business side of music — from current trends in music publishing to e-commerce, marketing and more. The program prepares students for careers in producing, distributing and managing, and promoting music and creative talent. As part of the program, students can gain hands-on experience by participating in VOVE, CSUN’s student-run record label.
