Winter and Spring at El Camino College

The El Camino College schedule of classes for Winter 2024 and Spring 2024 has officially been released! You can view the online schedule of classes by visiting www.elcamino.edu/schedule.

Winter session runs from January 4th through February 6th.

Spring session runs from February 12th through June 7th.

Announcements from Real World Learning Director (10.26.2023)

The RISE Diversity Project seeks to diversify the world of film and studio recordings by assembling an orchestra of young, BIPOC musicians from all across Los Angeles to work together with professional studio musicians and perform and record in a world-class recording studio. The opportunity is open for musicians aged 14-27 and it is free. The deadline is December 1st. For more information, please click here.

Announcements from Real World Learning Director (10.26.2023)

For students interested in volunteer work:

Volunteer with TreePeople’s community forestry team and help restore our urban forest in Inglewood! Planting trees increases shade, rainwater capture, cleanses water draining to the ocean, bolsters air quality, and mitigates the impact of climate change for Los Angeles County.

Please join the efforts happening on Saturday, 10/28 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Located at 590 E Brett St, Inglewood, CA 90302. Volunteers will sign in at the meeting location at 8:30 AM.

WHAT TO BRING:

    • Hat to provide shade
    • Work gloves — some will be made available, but it is recommended that volunteers bring their own
    • Comfortable clothing that can get dirty
    • Sturdy, close-toed shoes

    • Hand sanitizer

 

For students interested in film:

The NewFilmmakers Los Angeles’ Student Mentorship Program has two upcoming sessions on Saturday, November 18th and Sunday, November 19th, 2023 and they still have 12 spots available for students interested in film. Students must send their application via this link.

Below is a general overview of the program:

      • The Student Mentorship Program is open to current LA County High School Students. Participants will be paired with a production mentor during their time on set and will learn about directing, cinematography, lighting, producing, sound mixing and more. Students will also have the opportunity to meet the filmmakers on set and also receive IMDB credit for their participation.
      • Time: TBD but usually from 9:00 am – 5:30 pm.
      • Location: TBD
      • Each student is only allowed to participate once and they must be a current LA County-based High School student.
      • Lunch and snacks will be provided to the students.

What you need to do:

      • Students must send their application via this link.
      • Please ask the student’s parent/guardian to sign the attached release forms sent to them via email.
      • Please make sure to inform the student to regularly check their email and respond to our invitation as soon as possible so we can reserve a spot for them.

Spots will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. The organization will send a confirmation email to the student once they have been admitted to the program, so please remind them to check their inbox/spam folder regularly.

College Application Drop In- canceled tomorrow- Wednesday Oct. 25

College application drop in hours are canceled tomorrow Wednesday Oct.25. The rest of the Wednesday College Application Drop In Days  will be in November leading up to the November 30th deadline for UCs and CSUs. Here are the Wednesdays that Seniors are able to come to campus to get help on any college application, no signs ups needed, and the times will always be 1pm-3pm:

Wednesday Nov. 1st 1pm-3pm

No drop in hours on Wednesday Nov. 8

Wednesday Nov. 15th 1pm-3pm

Wednesday Nov. 29th 1pm-3pm

If you can’t make it to campus- students can zoom with Erin- but they need to email her (eknott@davincischools.org)  so she can send them her zoom link.

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Youth Council Applications are OPEN!
Roots and Shoots Youth Council USA is looking for inspiring young change-makers to apply and become part of a group of passionate and compassionate youth leaders from around the U.S. who exemplify what it means to be a part of the Roots & Shoots movement.

R&S Youth Council members gain special access to career-building opportunities like media training, information sessions with influential mentors across fields, and workshops to craft their personal stories. Council members are ambassadors of our program, so there may even be occasional speaking engagements!

You are encouraged to apply if you are…

  • 14-22 years old (high school-college aged).
  • Currently in 9th-12th grade or have graduated from high school (or an equivalent).
  • Residing and/or going to school in the United States or one of its territories.
  • A registered member of Roots & Shoots. Ideally, you are an active change-maker with a history of participating in and/or leading Roots & Shoots service projects in your community.
  • Ready to commit to an active year (Jan-Dec 2024) with Roots & Shoot Youth Council USA, which will include two online meetings a month and a 3-5 day in-person, intensive council summit during the summer 2024

LAX Aviation Career Day

 

Hello Everyone,

Join us on Wednesday, October 25 for an exciting field trip to the Flight Path Museum for LAX Aviation Career Day! We will depart from Da Vinci Schools at 201 N Douglas at 8:45am and return to campus by 12:30pm. During this trip, students will have a day of career exposure, aircraft display, talks with airline representatives and showcasing of emerging technologies in the aviation industry. If you are interested, Wednesday, 10/18 (today) is the deadline to RSVP and I will reach out to you with a required permission slip. Announcements From Real World Learning Director (10.18.2023)

The Los Angeles County Fire Department Headquarters are hosting “The Girls’ Fire Camp” on Saturday, October 21st 9:30am-3:30pm, located at 1320 North Eastern Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90063. Click here to RSVP!

This is a one-day program for candidates between the ages of 10-18 and introduces interested youth to various career opportunities available in the Fire Department. Attendees will learn basic firefighting skills by gaining valuable hands-on experience from professional LACoFD firefighters, dispatchers, lifeguards, and other Department team members.

PROCESSION: A family-friendly event at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on Oct. 21st

Procession is a multipart, community-oriented performance and festival that invites Los Angeles residents to explore the history of the LA River and the ground beneath their feet. This is a free event with storytelling, art workshops, performances, and family-friendly activities taking place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on October 21, 2023 at 11am. No RSVP required.
