Southern California High School College Fair- this weekend!

There is a virtual Southern California High School College Fair. All UC and CSU campuses, and a majority of independent colleges and universities from the AICCU, will participate. Attendees will be able to join live sessions, watch campus videos and visit campus booths to live chat and/or meet with campus representatives. Weekly Update

Hello DV Connect HS students and families,

We hope everyone had a nice week!

SLCs are next week! SLC’s are mandatory and required participants are: teacher, the student, and parent/guardian/someone in your student’s family. Sign ups are taking place in advisory. A “Talking Points” text message was sent out with your student’s advisory teacher information on how to sign up. Please refer to that text message to sign up! Any questions, please reach out to your student’s advisory teacher.

There is also a minimum day schedule next week. Early dismissal on Monday-Tuesday-Thursday. Please refer to the schedule below:

Period 1 –   9:15-10:10

Period 2 – 10:20-11:15

Period 3 – 11:25-12:20 (Students dismissed at 12:20)

SLCs by Appointment

There will be a bike safety class on Wednesday, October 13th, 5:30pm in the West Plaza at 201 N. Douglas St. This is a community event between Wiseburn and Da Vinci. Please refer to the flyer link below for more information and to register.

Join in with DV Connect HS in the first ever “Western Harvest Festival” on Wednesday October 27, 6pm-8pm. This event will take place in the West Plaza at 201 N. Douglas St. There will be games, food, and a raffle! Make sure to dress in your best western attire! (This is not a Halloween event, so no other costumes, please). Please see the fyler link below. We hope you can make it!

International Virtual College Tour today!

The International University Virtual Fair is TODAY at 6pm Eastern Time! (3pm PST)

Weekly Update

Good afternoon DV Connect HS students and families,

We had a great week of MAP testing! Thank you to the students for your time and energy with this!

There was a great turnout at the”Just for Juniors” night on Wednesday! In case you missed it, CLICK HERE for the “Just for Juniors” slidedeck from Erin’s presentation the other night. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a meeting, please email her at: eknott@davincischools.org

Attention 9th and 10th grade families, the counseling team is hosting a “9th and 10th Grade College Info” night on Wednesday, October 20th at 6pm-7pm on Erin’s ZOOM LINK. We will be discussing what to do now for college, GPAs, HS grad requirements, and more. We look forward to seeing you there!

Next week is a normal cohort schedule: Monday/Thursday and Tuesday/Friday, 9:15am-3:15pm.

Dr. Emily Green may have reached out to you regarding your student’s immunizatons- if she has- please respond to her ASAP!

Youth Advisory Council (YAC) opportunity

This fall the California Department of Education (CDE) will be launching the State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The YAC will be working directly with policymakers and educational partners to provide equitable change to the California education system. If you are passionate and interested in contributing to building a better tomorrow for all learning institutions, please apply by the October 15th deadline. For more information on the YAC and the requirements to join please see the attached flyer.

Weekly Update

Happy Friday, DV Connect High School students and families-

Hope everyone had a nice week.

Below is the schedule for next week- you will notice that MAP testing is after lunch, and all classes will be shortened and ending before lunch to accomodate this. MAP testing will take place in your student’s advisories on their normal cohort days: Monday/Thursday, and Tuesday/Friday next week. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

HBCU Summit Series and My Black is Beautiful Girls Summit opportunities!

SATURDAY OCTOBER 16, 2021 (9:00AM – 3:00PM PST)

The HBCU Summit Series presents the: Virtual My Black is Beautiful Girls Summit designed to mentor, educate, nurture and expose our young ladies to positive Black imagery in an effort to unlock their personal potential for greatness.

During the summit, students will experience non-traditional, creative and interactive presentations and seminars, discussing topics on leadership developmentEmpowerment & Culture, Health & Wellness, Self Imagery & mental healthacademic success and career exploration.

All of our sessions are designed to educate, inspire, challenge, and create communicative thought in students to create the next generation of leaders by empowering our young ladies.

The day starts at 9:00AM – 3:00PM PST and will also include the Virtual HBCU Summit, where students will have the opportunity to meet HBCU Representatives to learn about Historically Black Colleges & Universities.

The My Black is Beautiful Girls Summit is designed for Middle & High School students.

Please Note: There are NO Refunds, but you can definitely TRANSFER your ticket to another student. We would need to have both students names to do the exchange.

The Virtual HBCU Summit Series is BACK!! Make sure you REGISTER for one of the dates to attend the HBCU Summit. Students will get an opportunity to speak with lots of HBCU Representatives about the many opportunities of attending an HBCU, Apply and get accepted on the spot to some of the HBCUs participating, attend the various workshops including the HBCU 101 Experience Seminar!

There is nothing like the HBCU Experience!  The HBCU Summit Series is designed to expand awareness of the Black College Experience as well as education, career, and financial aid opportunities for students and their families.

The HBCU Summit Series dates:

Saturday December 4, 2021

Time: 9:00AM PST – 2:00PM PST

ALL students are welcomed to attend the HBCU Summit Series!! We highly recommend Middle School, High School and Community College students!
