UC Berkeley Raíces Recruitment & Retention Center upcoming workshop!

Our friends at Community Outreach Coordinators part of the Raíces Recruitment & Retention Center (formerly known as the RAZA Center) at UC Berkeley are hosting an winderful opportunity for you. Their mission is to demystify higher education through outreaches and programs geared towards low-income students of color to encourage them to attend higher education institutions as one way to ensure more opportunities for themselves and their communities and they wish to warmly invite you to our first-ever Raíces Regional Outreach & Opportunities Throughout Spring (ROOTS) a FREE hybrid program. Our ROOTS mission is to inspire High School & Community College students who may feel like school isn’t for them and reignite interest in continuing their education. Students will attend and participate in this 3 week-long program, and each week is a different region in CA, students will attend a 3-day long week of their specific location. With workshops focused on the various pathways to achieving higher education and workshops focused on fostering self-confidence and identity!

Week 1 Southern California: Thursday, March 17-Saturday, March 19

Weekly Update

Greetings Connect HS Students and Families-

We hope you all have had a nice week!

Don’t forget to check the DAILY TRACKER– a one stop shop for all asynchronous and synchrounous work/assignments, due dates, projects, office hours times and links, etc. Its the best way to keep up to date and on track in your classes- for students and parents/guardians. And don’t hesitiate to reach out to your teacher should you have any questions.

SLC Week is next week, Monday, March 7th- Thursday, March 10th. These will be held on Zoom. There is an adjusted, early dismissal schedule to accommodate SLCs, so please see the schedule below. We will still be providing lunch at 12:20 and students are welcome to stay and eat lunch until 1pm. After that time, students must have a transportation arrangement to make their way home.

Below is the Back to School Night Schedule, which is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 9th. This event will be in person at our new campus: 550 Continental Blvd. El Segundo CA, 90245. Monday/Thursday cohort starts at 5:45pm- 6:36pm and Tuesday/Friday cohort starts at 6:45pm-7:36pm. Please reach out to Marc (Principal) or Dr. J (Asst. Principal) with any questions!

Learning Logs were Due! If your student did not submit a learning log on time or has yet to submit it, please work with them to make sure that they submit their Learning Log. Please be on the lookout for a notice from the office notifying you of a missing or incomplete learning log.

Reusable Water Bottles! Please bring a reusable water bottle to school. We have water jugs to refill your water bottles. We don’t have an endless supply of plastic cups. Plus, reusable water bottles are better for our environment! We thank you in advance!

Internship Opportunity: Social Media Student Intern for WDV Athletics

WDV Athletics is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Student Intern who will help highlight athletic teams, players, and game highlights. We need a social media student intern who can post content on Instagram and Twitter, and coordinate interactions between our team social channels. This unpaid internship also offers the intern the opportunity to work in partnership with Da Vinci’s Marketing & Communications team.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail in grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Familiar with social media including Instagram and Twitter
  • Graphic Design experience preferred: Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva, etc.
  • Ability to engage with individuals of varying ages and backgrounds
  • Self-motivated, comfortable in taking initiative
  • Great attitude – willingness to learn, ability to multitask

Responsibilities for the Social Media Intern:

  • Assist in managing the WDV Athletics Instagram and Twitter pages with a specific focus on sharing athlete stories, celebrating game results, featuring support for teams, sharing tryout information and upcoming games, and other relevant events
  • Use graphics and photography/video to create visually appealing and creative content
  • Interact with the WDV Athletics fanbase
  • Report to weekly social media meeting, brainstorm ideas

This is a great opportunity for a talented student who is interested in leveraging their passion for athletics and social media/marketing. Interested applicants must be in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. The internship will start immediately and will continue for the remaining part of the semester. To apply please submit a cover letter, resume and three to five examples of social media posts you have created that highlight your talent as a social media content creator to Donald Moreland at dmoreland@davincischools.org. Time Commitment: Approximately 3 hours per week. Most of the work will be remote.
