CHS Advisory Update: Building Connection, Community, and Creativity

This year, our Advisory program is getting a fun and meaningful refresh! We’re excited to announce the introduction of Grade Level Advisory Teams, designed to help students build stronger connections within their advisories while engaging in friendly competitions and creative challenges throughout the year.

Each month, advisories will take part in unique activities that encourage teamwork, social-emotional growth, and school spirit. We’ve already kicked off the first challenge, where every advisory created their own team name, motto, and poster to represent their group’s identity and values. It’s been inspiring to see the creativity and collaboration students have brought to this activity!

This month, we’re keeping the momentum going with a Fall Pumpkin Decorating Contest—a fun, festive way to celebrate the season together. Next month, each advisory will “adopt” a local organization and host a donation drive to give back to the community.

Alongside these challenges, we’re also weaving in time for social-emotional learning and advisory team bonding, helping students develop empathy, resilience, and communication skills. We’re even adding some new weekly features, such as Advisory Wordles and connection activities, to keep things engaging and interactive.

Our overall goal for Advisory this year is to ensure that every student has a landing space—a safe, inclusive, and student-centered environment where they can take a break from academics, connect with peers, and feel a sense of belonging on campus.

To close out October, we’ll be celebrating with our annual Trick-or-Treat event, a favorite tradition that brings together the entire school community for some spooky, lighthearted fun!

We can’t wait to see how these activities continue to build stronger relationships, community pride, and lasting memories for all our students.

College and Career Readiness at Connect High

College and Career Readiness (CCR) is the newest course addition to DV Connect High School.  CCR has been offered at the other DV high schools, and now it is offered at Connect as well.  We are thrilled to be able to offer this class to our Seniors this semester.  Stephany has done a remarkable job!  Please read her class update below.

Here’s a quick update from our College and Career Readiness (CCR) class this semester! 😊

  • Students are engaging in meaningful activities that build skills, creativity, and ownership of their learning.
  • I am having in-depth conversations about their plans after high school including – Top 5 universities of their choice, safety schools/back-up plans, one-on-one conferences about their application progression, plans after their GAP year, trade school applications, artistic portfolios, personal statement /PIQ feedback and more!
  • This week, many students showed growth by presenting their research on a four-year university, community college or trade school of their choice.
  • As a reminder, we will be visiting Cal State LA this upcoming Wednesday (October 8th ) .
  • All students are making progress in their CCR plans, and we are preparing for upcoming college and career opportunities with tours and guest speakers!
