The Connect HS Counselors will be hosting college information family meetings on Tuesday, March 21st for current 9th and 10th graders, and Wednesday, March 22nd for current 11th graders.
We will be discussing college pathway options, college readiness, and what students should be doing in high school to prepare for their post-high school college and career plans.

For students interested in exploring cyber security and IT:
Join the IT Academy Powered by Microsoft! LA-Tech.org has partnered with Microsoft to bring you this incredible opportunity to get PAID while learning, earning certifications, and working with amazing companies like Microsoft. This program is 12 weeks and requires a commitment of 10 to 15 hours a week. You will be required to attend zoom sessions every Tuesday and Thursday with the majority of sessions starting at 4 pm. For students interested in business and technology:
The Fika Tech Career Academy starts in the Fall of 2023. Students will have the opportunity to learn from companies such as Roblox, Snapchat Inc, Facebook, and more. This is a paid opportunity that allows students to build their portfolios with industry-driven projects. The Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship (KKCF) is cofounded by Hip Hop Artist French Montana and supports youth interested in STEM. Through a 12-month fellowship program, Fellows will complete 80 hours of summer curriculum to prepare them for college, the future of work, and STEM careers, while participating in monthly career workshops throughout the academic year. During the summer months, Fellows will participate in six weeks of summer instruction, then receive monthly career coaching sessions and workshops. Fellows will use industry-standard technologies to learn how to create a brand, understand selling, create a proper wireframe, basic HTML & CSS coding, and more. To learn more, please click here. 2023 SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY PROMPT
Describe how your community uniquely contributes to the broader AAPI experience.
The Foundation 649 Scholarship is a grant of $4,000 over the course of 4 years that can be applied to college tuition and expenses. To maintain eligibility each year, there will be a brief check-in and renewal process at the end of each school year.
Details
- Five recipients will be selected
- Each recipient will receive an award of $4,000 USD spread over 4 years
- The award must be renewed each year to receive successive funds (details to come)
- Application deadline is March 1, 2023
- 10 entrants will be selected as finalists for video call interviews by March 31, 2023
- Recipients are announced by April 15, 2023
Requirements
- Be a degree-seeking, full-time student enrolling in a U.S. accredited university in Fall 2023 as a Freshman or transferring from a community college
- Identify as Asian American / Pacific Islander
- Have a track record of involvement and interest in AAPI communities, issues, or causes
- Have demonstrated financial need for the scholarship
- Be a US citizen, resident or foreign national
ApplicationThe application consists of a questionnaire and a short essay (1000 word maximum). Creativity is welcome – alternate media will also be accepted in place of the essay if the applicant chooses (e.g. film, photography, etc.). If you are selected as a recipient, with your permission, we plan to share your submission with our audiences.
In addition, applicants should provide the FAFSA SAR (student aid report) that show their EFC (expected family contribution). If you are unable to provide this document, please provide substitute documentation and elaborate in the financial aid section.

- (3/20 deadline) 2022-2023 Earl Woods Scholarship (SENIORS)TGR Foundation, A Tiger Woods Charity is excited to extend the opportunity and invite your high school seniors at Da Vinci Communications High School to apply for the 2023-2024 Earl Woods scholarship.The Earl Woods Scholar Program was created in 2006 to honor the vision and spirit of Earl Woods, Tiger’s father, and mentor, to continue his legacy of caring and sharing. The program goes far beyond financial assistance. Holding one of the highest graduation rates among scholarship programs in the country, our unique program is committed to ensuring every scholar is supported throughout their time in college and beyond. Once selected, our scholars receive continued guidance throughout college with mentorship, personal and professional development workshops, and internship placement assistance to ensure our scholars succeed and graduate with their bachelor’s degree.
The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors, Class of 2023, in select schools in the Los Angeles area with a minimum 3.0 GPA that have plans to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year university in the United States in the upcoming academic year. Successful candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated financial need and a proven commitment to community service.
Our application is now online. Please share the attached document with students who you believe are eligible to apply for the scholarship. It provides a general overview of the scholar program, eligibility requirements and documents to gather prior to starting the application. Students will also find the link to the application and can click on “Apply Now” or use the QR code to apply. The application is due by March 20, 2023.
The application is not located on our website, so please ensure that you disseminate this information to eligible seniors only at your school site. Selected recipients will receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 (renewable for up to four years) and will be provided with holistic student support throughout their college career. Finalists will need to be available for an in-person interview in April 2023. Recipients will be announced in May.
- (3/24 deadline) PanHellenic Alumnae- South Bay Association Scholarship (SENIORS)
The Panhellenic Alumnae – South Bay Association is currently accepting applications for our Scholarship Awards for 2023-2024. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 24, 2023.
Scholarships shall be awarded annually to female graduates of high schools in the South Bay area who plan to attend a four-year institution where National Panhellenic Conference sororities (NPC) are established. The application is attached HERE and also available on our website.

Part Two, due on May 15th, will only be required for applicants who are notified by the committee to proceed. This part of the application requires:
- An official transcript of grades (School Certification Completed)
- Two letters of recommendation.
Successful applicants will be notified by June 15, 2023. All recipients will be invited to attend our breakfast on June 25, 2023, where they will be presented to the membership and guests of the Wilfandel Club. They will be asked to say a short speech and will be able to bring two guests.

Announcements From Real World Learning Director (2.17.2023)
For students interested in filmmaking opportunities:
Film2Future is offering an intensive filmmaking program where students can take creative ideas from script to screen. You will learn the filmmaking process from more than 250 professionals working in the entertainment industry. After graduating, students will have a resume, portfolio, and a professional network of Hollywood creatives. Eligible graduates (18+ years old) of the program are supported in launching their careers as creators and obtaining paid internships and jobs. The program is free to students. For students interested in research opportunities:
Project STRIDE – Charles Drew University is a ten-week summer clinical research program for 11th-grade high school students. Students may be in the 11th grade at the time of submitting the application and must have completed the 11th grade to start in the program. The application is available now and due no later than March 15th.
For students interested in tech opportunities:
Technovation Girls Challenge: Technovation Challenge runs across 100+ countries for young female tech entrepreneurs ages 10 to 18. Participants work with mentors to develop a mobile app and launch a startup that solves real-world problems with technology. Girls need to complete all the necessary steps, from coding to writing a business plan. The submission deadline is April 18th, 2023 at 5 pm PDT. Learn more by clicking here.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: Avantus Cleantech Career Academy offers opportunities for youth to succeed in California’s green energy future through education, job readiness, and paid-work-based learning. Youth earn $16.04 an hour while building their knowledge of opportunities in the cleantech sector. The Academy will take place virtually over a 12-week period on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6:30 pm. Must be 16 years old. The deadline to apply is February 22. Apply here.

Diamond Challenge: The diamond challenge is an innovative entrepreneurship competition offering $100,000 in prizes and resources to take student ideas to the next level. El Camino College “Telling Stories” Exhibition, Saturday, February 18th
El Camino College would like to invite Da Vinci students to the public reception for the opening of the Telling Stories exhibition in the Art Gallery on Saturday, February 18th from 2-5 pm. Sling Pilot Academy, the largest and most innovative flight school in the Los Angeles Area, and SkyWest Airlines, the Largest Regional Airline in the world are pleased to welcome you to our elite partnership launch event and open hangar.
Sling Pilot Academy is giving away 100 Free Flights to high school juniors and seniors and community college students during this STEM event, to create awareness about the airline pilot career.
To qualify for a free Introductory Flight Lesson, high school junior and senior students and college students will need to present a valid student ID. Career advisors are also eligible for a free Introductory Flight Lesson.
Each student will receive:
- A free Introductory Flight Lesson* – take the controls and fly the airplane!
- A free Simulator flight session
- A Pilot Logbook to log airplane and simulator time (counts towards Pilot Certificate!)
- An hour presentation by SkyWest Airlines, the largest regional airline in the world, on the state of the airline industry and the pathway from high school to career

Monday (13th) & Tuesday (14th) will be Decades Day. Come in your best decades outfit inspired by Black fashion, and prepare for a mini fashion show at lunch!
Thursday (16th) & Friday (17th) will be Valentine’s themed. Come wearing pink, red, or white! If you’re more into “Anti-Valentine’s”, wear black! On those two days, we will also be passing out the Candy Grams and playing a Kahoot during Advisory!
