Supply Distribution Day coming next week!

Hi DV Connect HS students and families,

We are holding a MANDATORY high school supply distribution day! We have important supplies all students need for their current classes. The distribution will take place next Monday, 2/1 from 3:30pm-5:00pm, at 201 N. Douglas Street, El Segundo, 90245.

9th grade students will receive art supplies and 10th grade students will receive their English book and some students will receive math supplies.

As a reminder, please remember “windows down, masks up” when arriving for the event. This means we are asking you to ensure that each individual inside the car is wearing a mask when you roll your windows down to say hi and retrieve supplies. Also, please be sure that all individuals remain in the vehicle. We appreciate your cooperation in making this event safe for staff and families!

WASC: Student and Parent volunteers needed!

DV Connect HS has a major event happening this spring, the WASC Accreditation of our school. “ACS WASC accreditation is a process schools use to monitor student learning and set school improvement goals. We are looking for volunteers (students, parents, guardians) to help in the WASC process, so please join us this Wednesday January 27th at 6pm for more information about WASC and your chance to provide input and support to the program. Weekly Update

Hope you all had a great first week back! The staff loved seeing the students again in this new year!

CLICK HERE to see the daily tracker: the google doc where it lists general topics you covered in class this week, any recordings you can reference/view, assignments, and due dates! Its also a great way to look at how you should spend your asynchronous days working on your assignments for your classes! Parents/guardians and students should use this to keep up to date in each class!

Also, please don’t forget that Monday is a school holiday held in honor of civil rights champion Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who championed the cause of justice, racial equality, and love between people regardless of the color of their skin.

In his acceptance speech of the Nobel Prize in 1964, Dr. King said: “I accept this award today with an abiding faith in America and an audacious faith in the future of mankind…I refuse to accept the idea that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.”

Particularly in our unprecedented current historical context and the disturbing recent events in our Capitol, Dr. King’s hope and faith in a society committed to driving out the darkness of injustice and racism in our country with the light of justice and love is one we continue to reflect on, teach, and strive to embody with our students.

Call for Proposals from The Belldegrun Center for Integrated Health

Identify a challenge related to the distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine and propose a solution.

As hundreds of thousands of new COVID-19 infections are reported daily in the United States, a safe and effective vaccine seems like the greatest promise of ending this pandemic.  Yet, the approval of a vaccine represents only the first step to another national challenge: successfully distributing an effective vaccine to the American public. Submit a proposal and if selected, winning entries will receive coaching from the BCIL and have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Bob McDonald, who served under President Obama. Secretary McDonald was recently appointed by President-elect Joe Biden to serve on his transition team advisory board after an impressive career as a civil servant, a corporate leader as Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Procter & Gamble, and a proud army Veteran.

Please CLICK HERE for more info, deadline, driving questions, and to submit!
