Resources for Mental Health Awareness
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the counseling team would like to share resources and events that will serve as tools for families to help students thrive.
Below are some student mental health resources and support services from our partners at South Bay Families Connected:
- Access up-to-date parenting resources, articles and videos to support youth mental health, manage anxiety and prevent suicide.
- We encourage you to visit the SBFC Event Calendar for Mental Health Awareness Month events, including the May 17th Families Connected Speaker Series on device and screen time management and the Families Connected Parent Chat, both of which are provided in partnership with Beach Cities Health District.
- Teens can visit the Virtual Teen Center for mental health, anxiety, stress management resources and more!
- For resources on a variety of parenting topics, read SBFC’s Newsletter and visit our own Da Vinci Schools Families Connected.

Interested in careers in healthcare? Come to our 11-12 Career Exposure Series to hear Da Vinci Schools Nurse Emily Green speak about her educational and career path from high school to nursing as well as discuss future training and pathways for healthcare careers that Da Vinci is considering. Join our Real-World Learning Coordinator, Tori as she leds a moderated panel with Emily, followed by a Q & A session as we want to hear from you!

Don’t forget to check the DAILY TRACKER– a one stop shop for all asynchronous and synchrounous work/assignments, due dates, projects, office hours times and links, etc. Its the best way to keep up to date and on track in your classes- for students and parents/guardians. Its also a great tool to build your asynch days. And don’t hesitiate to reach out to your teacher should you have any questions. All the same information that is on the Daily Tracker is also in each teacher’s Google Classrooms. The end of the semester is in 5 1/2 weeks, time to finish strong!

Join Connect HS for Culture Day!

Description: Connect Crew would like to hold an event where the school can celebrate the students’ cultures. The main purpose of this event is to give students the opportunity to share their backgrounds, especially bringing light to under/misrepresented ones.
BSU’s Lunchtime Conversation- join in!
Da Vinci Connect’s Black Student Union stands in support of sexual assualt survivors, and wants to show that recgonition by asking you all to wear your jeans and denim in support of Denim Day on April 28th & 29th! There will also be a lunchtime conversation that you are more than welcome to participate in, in a safe and comfortable environment. Put on your jeans and come see us at lunch!
Career Exposure Series
DVX and Connect High will be kicking off a Career Exposure Series this Friday April 29th with an Industry Partner- West Basin Water. It will be a 5-week series that will look like this:

Week 2- Wednesday May 4th– Medical Field Pathways with Emily Green

Each session is 11am-noon.

CHYA Sexual Education Parent Notification
Sexuality Education Parent Notification
Dear parents and guardians of Da Vincians,
Da Vinci Schools acknowledge that parents/guardians are the primary sexuality educators for their child/children and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role.
California requires school districts to provide students with integrated, comprehensive, accurate, and unbiased comprehensive sexual health and HIV prevention education at least once in middle school and once in high school.
Da Vinci Schools has adopted the Teen Talk curriculum which includes the below core components:
- Covers topics of sexual and reproductive anatomy, conception and fetal development, birth control, pregnancy options, STIs and HIV, gender and sexual orientation, media analysis, relationships, sexual crimes, consent, communication and decision-making
- Establishes a foundation for understanding sexual health and common language for communicating respectfully.
- Helps students identify resources (e.g., parents/trusted adults, school personnel, healthcare providers)
- Encourages communication with parents/trusted adults, including an interview assignment
- Uses gender inclusive language

Health Connected | Sex ed starts here. Bay Area-based comprehensive sexual health education programs for youth, parents, and education professionals.
We are pleased to inform you that your child will have the opportunity to participate in the Teen Talk High School curriculum (Part 1) on one asynchronous day (for all students) Wednesday May 11th 11am-12:15pm, and their Advisory class (Part 2) on either Thursday May 12th or Friday May 13th- depending on their cohort.
**Parents/guardians have the option of excluding their child from sexuality education instruction. If you do not want your child to participate in comprehensive sexual health/HIV prevention education, please do so in writing before May 11th th to the principal Marc Pioch at mpioch@davincischools.org; Students who are excused do not have to log into Dr. Green’s zoom webinar link either day.**
